S.A.R.
If there are any S.A.R. clubs out there then I would really like to hear from you and feature an article, or series, about your airgun sport. Sporting Air Rifle is a fantastic, family, fun passtime. For the sake of readers who do not know what it is all about, let me explain the basics.
In FT (Field Target) there are 'lanes' in which metal knock-down targets are placed at various ranges. Participants use their rifles to knock down the targets in limited time and number of shots. They can use basic spring powered guns or hyper-hi-tech PCP's Pre-charged Pneumatics. They can also use basic open sights, basic 'scopes (telescopic or "zoom" sights) or very expensive "dial-a-range" models.
SAR varies in the respect that the lanes may not be straight, regular or even recognisable as lanes. Targets may be scattered around, for example, a woodland area. A designated 'path' is laid out which must be followed and adhered to. Competitors follow the path and shoot the targets they come accross, these may be near or far, like FT. The major difference is that the "shooter" must not adjust their sights or gun in any way! They have a "Referee" accompanying each shooter who keeps score and makes sure that the path ahead is safe and clear, etcetera.
Overall, I believe that this aspect of the Sport is possibly the greatest challenge to each shooter's skill and therefore the most fun. It is also a good way of learning better skills and techniques, especially for those who hunt live quarry in pest control situations.
So, let's hear from all you SAR men and women (and children) ou there who enjoy their SAR Sport.
